About Me
HomeWorks Mission Statement:
Provide Quality Home Inspections to enable Clients to make Smart Decisions
My most recent construction project. 35' X 25' double car garage with shop and attic storage space above. Girts in all stud wall cavities, let-in bracing in corners, full width headers above all openings, (garage door opening has 12" wide LVL) forest green standing seam roof, radiant barrier sheathing on roof and exterior walls, Anderson horizontal slider windows, Hardi Plank siding. I used a 16" X 3 1/2" glulam beam running length wise down the center of the garage to reduce the number of columns within the structure. 2" X 10" ceiling joists were added for strength since it now has a floor above and is being used for storage space. And yes my wife helped.
I am a native Texan born in Mercedes, Texas in 1956. My family and I relocated to Arkansas in 1970 where I graduated from High School. I began work with a prermier home builder at that time and was later considered a partner. As partner/owner we did most if not all of the work along with a few other full time employees. Foundation pours, framing, drywall, electrical, masonry, roofing, custom cabinets, painting. I was fortunate to learn and perform every aspect of the building process. The only thing we contracted out was the plumbing which was only done with copper. Now days very few contractors do the work, they sub-contract most if not all of it. They end up spending their time coordinating, ordering, purchasing, permitting, and so on, all while the actual building goes on un-watched. My teacher was a master builder with high moral character and the building techniques he used were unrivaled. The skills I learned from him have guided me throughout my years.
Being a young man at the time, I decided I wanted to see the world so I went into the U.S. Air Force. After a 4 year tour I went back to work building houses. I later moved on to Houston and worked as a contractor building town houses and doing hurricane repairs. I met my wife, and decided again to get back into the Air Force and stay long enough to get a retirement which I did, in the year 2000. During my stay in the Air Force I did a few remodeling jobs when time would allow. As an aircraft maintenance specialist in the Air Force I spent most of my career performing aircraft inspections. This involved a meticulous and detailed process which took several days to perform. Basically it was taking the airplane apart, inspecting it, performing operational checks, putting it all back together, then sending it back out to the flightline so that it could safely enable a pilot to perform combat missions with it for several hundred hours until the inspection was due again.
Upon retirement my wife and I as well as our son were stationed in Italy. We wanted to be back in Texas so we ended up in Winchester. I have completed several contruction projects lately, which right now are excluded to my own. When I get done with my needs I may consider getting back into the construction business.
Since I have been out I have been able to obtain over 448 credit hours towards my professional inspector's license. I take pride in what I do and consider the home inspection process as a valuable tool regardless of whether you are a buyer, seller, or current owner. I look foward to serving your current and future needs.
Sincerely,
Raymond J. Brothers
